The theme that I am following in this assignment is Contrast. For this I looked at a range of different types of photographers that use different themes of contrast, Pinterest was my main priority in helping me find what I wanted to do for my final piece as It has so many different idea's to help me with. Searching through Pinterest and I came across Fragments. Fragments is a theme that I have never actually worked with before as normally I would be working with frozen fruit and vegetables or even pictures of sunsets and beautiful sky pictures. I decided to test myself and try something new and experiment with it to see if I can reach my target of succeeding it. Fragments is a beautiful thing because it's so interesting the way that its created and the idea which is fort into it.
Freudenthal Verhagen is a famous photographer who is popular for creating his pictures into fragments. I decided to carry on the idea of fragments as I found it very interesting and I have never tried something as quirky and interesting as the idea of Freudenthal Verhagen. His work includes a range of different strategy. For example, some of his photographs include cutting out circles on each facial feature and replacing them around, mixing it up a little. It works quite well as It's different. His pictures are so simple but with all the colours he uses and the effect it gives the image a better vibe. Some of his pictures including just folding of the picture, he takes a plain simple photo of two people that he's set it up with a particular look. His photos are so perfect, he's used perfect lighting in his pictures, pictures taken in the right viewpoint. I had also researched another Fragment Artist named John Stezaker, his work was very interesting. He gathers loads of old photos of all famous people and take pictures of old buildings or places which are really meaningful to people. For example, a beautiful field which might reflect on someone's life back when they were younger. With the pictures that he had taken he would stick them randomly on this photo which he has used from a previous photo that someone had taken many years back. His idea was really different to many Photos that I have seen, but his ideas seemed rather random and something maybe that I would find either really bad or too easy.
The ideas that I came up with were not exactly planned the way I had originally planned it, I planned to come up with my final idea, to experiment before actual exam. Getting enough practice to full fill what I really wanted to achieve. As an early start I stepped straight ahead of what Contrast I wanted to experiment with for my second final piece, I carried a huge amount of out research. What I mean by research is scanning through the internet and on every site till I could find the theme I really wanted to work with. When it came to planning and having idea's, I never really wrote it down on my site or on a piece of paper or anywhere to remind me. I'm not very successful when it comes to planning as I change my mind quite quickly.
My second final piece was left to such last minute, I thought I could just take a serious of photos and see where I could go from there. I took photos of my friend Mahri and Amina. I literally had taken over 150 pointless, useless pictures of them. I was in such a struggle because I had left it at such last minute which was completely my own fault. I taken pictures of them separately and got a couple of shots with them together. I had taken these pictures on a Cannon which was borrowed by the school. After I had got all my pictures sorted I uploaded them all onto my computer and put all the pictures onto my Weebly. I photo-shopped the pictures that I wanted to use for my final piece as editing them all would have been way too long! I contrasted the pictures a bit, making the background more white and contrasted to bring out the picture of Mahri and Amina. I printed some pictures of which I wanted to work with, It took be over an hour and 30 minutes just to print off the pictures, I was pretty much having a break down at this point. I finally succeeded when I finally printed the pictures, I then pretty much had no idea what I should do with the pictures. Mr Nicholls he helped me with the idea, I made a few more copies of the same picture and cutting strips of the picture and sticking back onto the same picture but on a different sheet, positioning them in different places of the face and moving it around making it much more interesting and hard to understand what is going on. It was quite difficult for me to know what's good and what's not good, positioning them in the best places making it look really good rather then just stuck in any random places.
I am quite happy with my final piece even though, I didn't put as much effort as I know I could have done in to make it perfect. I should have prepared much earlier and experimented more with the pictures of Mahri and Amina to get a better final outcome. This will teach me for the future final pieces that I need to work harder and to prepare myself.
